Is failure succeeding you?

tina tang

I am going to admit it.  I read them.  Self help books can be redundant or outright ridiculous, but there are times in my life where I need a little reminding.Lately, I have been feeling rather discouraged with where I am at in my creativity.  I saw this on my friend's bookshelf:I read a chapter before I go to bed. Each chapter is a mini life synopsis, told to the author by various well known athletes, doctors, actors, writers, or scientists.  Sprinkled throughout the book are also quotes and factoids to remind the reader that success can only be preceded by failures.Whenever a rejection feels devastating, or you feel the uphill march is unbearable, remember these little factoids I found in the book:_____________"We don't like thier sound, and guitar music is on the way out." -Decca Recording Co. rejecting the Beatles, 1962Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was rejected by over 100 publishing houses before being published in 1974 and selling over 4 million copies."Louis Pasteur's theory of germs is ridiculous fiction." -Pierre Pachet, professor of physicology at the University of Toulouse, France 1872"Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?"-Harry Warner, Warner Brothers, 1927, in response to the advent of talking pictures.Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind was rejected by over 25 publishers.  The general feeling was that the public was not interested in Civil War stories.________________Another simple trick I use to pick myself up is to dress up.   I really didn't have anywhere to go besides the office today, but I threw on my vintage suit.  I love the 1940's when women were ladies and men were dapper.   I like it when men open my doors.Vintage head to toe except for the Tina Tang jewelry.See, pearls don't have to feel fuddy duddy.  Or, maybe you do think I look like a gramma.Braids are the urban touch.  I do live in the Big Apple.Suit: 1940's vintageStockings: J CrewShoes: vintage Bruno MagliNecklace: Tina Tang Auntie Mame 4 Strand PearlsEarrings: Tina Tang White Pearl Midori EarringsPin: vintage 1950's"Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor"  -Truman Capote
