Style Chameleons vs. Signature Style

By ChristineInStyle.com today has a feature about the many outfits of Sienna Miller (she wore six different looks yesterday! All fabulous!), and it’s got me thinking. I love to see the way celebrities dress, how they can manage to be style chameleons and transform their looks daily – or in Sienna’s case, hourly – but as much as I admire their ever-changing styles, I think it’s the women who have a signature look who are truly to be admired. It’s something I’m noticing more and more as I get older and as I try to figure out what my style is. I love to see when people look different every day, but the people I consider most stylish are the ones whose type of outfit you can almost predict ahead of time. It doesn’t really matter what it is that they wear, it’s just that they know what they like and they’ve made it an extension of themselves. It goes for clothing as much as accessories – bags, shoes, and especially jewelry. There’s just something so innately stylish and put-together about women who have pieces of jewelry that they incorporate into every look. Again, it doesn’t matter if it’s bold and bright or dainty and delicate. Jennifer Aniston, for example, has the market cornered on simple gold pieces. I myself have moved from wanting to have tons of jewelry pieces that I wear every once in a while to having just a few key pieces that go with everything. That’s why I’m so delighted to be working at Tina Tang now. I think her pieces are exactly the type of jewelry that you can fall in love with, wear every day, and make a part of who you are. And there’s nothing more stylish than that.

  • I’d rather be a chameleon but don’t know if I qualify! I’m turned off by people with “uniforms.” Especially “capsule wardrobes” rolling eyes

  • You make a good point. I will say that Signature Style only works if it’s your own – not if you’re wearing the same thing as everyone around you.

Full disclosure – I think a good part of me prefers the signature style just because I’m always in a rush in the morning, and I need help!
